August 2015 Book Haul (part 2)

Hey :) This would be the part 2 of my book haul I promised. I have another 7 books to tell you about today.
  • A Room with a View by E.M.Forster. This is another book for school that I need to have read for September.
  • The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. This is based on A Thousand and One Nights where the ruler of the land takes a wife and every time she ends up dead the next morning. The book follows a girl whose friend was one of his victims and she decides to marry him to exact revenge. There have been so many good things said about this book and I can't what to read it!
  • Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley. I believe this is about a girl who has always struggled to breathe because she belongs to another world which is calling her.
  • Nimona by Noelle Stevenson. This is a graphic novel that just looks so much fun, I love the art too! The author/artist also did the  cover for Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl.
  • Olalla by Robert Louis Stevenson. I read Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde earlier this year and enjoyed so I thought I'd pick up some more of his work.
  • The Great Winglebury Dual by Charles Dickens. I want to read more Dickens but I'm going to start small.
  • Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen. I know a little of Owen's poetry from school and I find it very moving and I'm glad to have a little collection of his for my own collection :)
I'm really looking forward to all of these especially Nimona cause I haven't read many graphic novels. I'd love to know if you've read any of these!

August 2015 Book Haul (part 1)

Hello lovelies! I have another book haul for you, I'm only showing you half of the books today and then in a couple of weeks I'll post part 2 because if I did all of them today it would be way too long. I've recently got a job so you can where that money is going! (in all seriousness I am saving most of it)

  • Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider. I found this in whsmiths and it sounded good and it has a very pretty cover so I picked it up because I have no restraint. This is about a boy who goes to a boarding school for sick kids where he is expecting to be miserable but that is not the case once he meets is classmates.
  • It's About Love by Steven Camden. I read Tape by Steven in June and flew through it so when I saw his new book it was an auto-buy. I feel like this is going to be a very honest and real love story.
  • To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han. I have wanted to read this for a while and what with all the hype surrounding the sequel at the time I caved when I saw it in asda. This book is about a girl who writes  very honest letters to her crushes and puts them in a hatbox instead of sending them to dispel the crush. One day these letters get sent out.
  • The Isle of the Lost by Melissa De La Cruz. This is the prequel to Disney channel's new original movie Descendants about the kids of the villains and though I'm not sure on the film I am looking forward to the book.
  • A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams. I picked this up because I am studying it in September and I have no idea what it about.
So those are some of the books I have brought recently. Have you read any? If so I would love to know what you thought.

Library Haul

So lately I've been going to my library a bit more and I thought I would share with you what I have been borrowing. The physical books are all poetry that I needed to read for summer prep work for English lit. and those are:

  • Seeing Stars, Simon Armitage
  • Rapture, Carol Ann Duffy
  • Sylvia Plath, Selected Poems
I've been a member of my library for many, many years now; to the point where my card has a teddy on it (which I love) but I recently found that they work with something called Overdrive which allows you to borrow ebooks and audiobooks online. I really like this especially since I can't always get into town and I am loving audiobooks right now but they are super expensive so borrowing is brilliant! Definitely check to see if your library has this option. The audiobooks I currently have are:
  • Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, J.K.Rowling
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, J.K.Rowling
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, J.k.Rowling (on hold)
You may notice a theme... After seeing they had all the Harry Potters on audiobook I thought, "What the heck, why not marathon the whole series?" And I am SO GLAD I did, I forgot how brilliant these books were! Do you go to your library often? I'm volunteering this year for the little one's summer reading challenge so will be there even more :)

Book Haul #10

Today is my 10th book haul, we have made it to double figures! Which is not surprising considering my book buying habits! I have brought these over the past couple of months here and there, most of them I got to treat myself as I have a job now and I can't very well save the 1st money I ever earn I have to spend on myself and congratulate myself :)
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas, there has been too much talk of this book for it not to catch my eye and when it involves Beauty and the Beast I kind of have to buy it :) It is a retelling of the fairytale with fey!
  • Ages ago I got If I stay by Gayle Forman but I don't think I ever hauled it so here it is :)
  • The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot. I love these films and I didn't know they were books until I heard of the new 1 coming out so I figured I would give this ago so I picked this up in audiobook form.
  • Dream a Little Dream by Giovanna Fletcher. I found this I early and was so excited, this will be my 1st book of Gi's and I can't wait, this 1 is very high up on my to read list.
  • The Gracekeepers by Kirsty Logan, The only thing I really know if this book is that the world has flooded and there is some kind of circus. I am looking forward to this book a lot and have a really good feeling about it.
  • I also picked up another of Penguin's Little Black Classics- A Slip under the Microscope by H.G.Wells. I've had War of the Worlds for ages and I thought this my wet my appetite a little.
  • Charles Dickens, Complete Ghost Stories. I saw this in my local independent bookshop for £2.99 and well, you can't go wrong with a little Dickens.
  • Lastly I got the new Project Austen book, Emma by Alexander McCall Smith. I am currently in the middle of the original Emma so once I've finished that I'll get on to this :)
I'm excited about all these and planning on reading them soon, so look out for reviews and things :)

A Winning Book Haul!

Hello! Today I'm going to share with you a book haul that I didn't have to pay a penny for, I wa super, super lucky to win 5 books from one of Penguin Platform's videos and I am very excited about them :)

  • Who Governs Britain? Anthony King. I would be lying if I said I was excited for this book but I am very interested in it and I'm also going to lend to a friend who is very into politics. This is a Pelican book that answers the title basically and I really want to understand politics by the time I can vote so I can use mine wisely.
  • Without You, There is No Us, Suki Kim. This is another really interesting one, it is the author's account of teaching English to the sons of the Elite in North Korea. I know very little about North Korea and I think this will be an eye opener!
  • Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, Becky Albertalli. This has gotten soooo much hype and I'm really looking forward to it. I think it is about Simon coming out to the world after someone reads his emails and finds out he is gay, and I need to read more LGBTQ books because I have only read a few. Plus the copy I have is an ARC and instead of Simon it has my name on the front! How cool is that! :)
  • What She Left, T.R.Richmond. This sound good but scary and I don't do well with that so I will give it a go but I may end up giving it to a friend. But it is about a girl who drowned last year and a Professor has become obsessed with finding out everything he can about her. I had a flick through and it seems to have letters and voicemails etc. and I love epistolary formats :)
  • The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage, The (Mostly) True Story of the First Computer by Sydney Padua. Now I left best till last, this is the one I am most excited for. It is about Victorian mathematicians/mechanic who where genius and if Babbage had lived he would have created the very first computer, in this graphic novel (I think, it has like pages of writing too, it's a bit of a mix) It is written as if these two DID finish their work and use their invention to fight crime. It sounds amazing, I love anything Victorian and the design is gorgeous!
And that is my book haul, thank you so much to Penguin Platform for these!
