Bout of Books Day 2

Yesterday was good. The challenges were super cool, I'm starting to enjoy The Great Gatsby now (as I was struggling to get into it at first).

Today I read 34pgs of Gatsby bringing my overall total to 60pgs so far. I am quite happy with this as I tend to take ages with classics because of their different styles but I'm reading this 1 quicker. But I think I may start another book to read alongside it so I can get a bit more reading done especially since I will have to start doing homework in the next couple of days. Hooray! Bout of Books 11 Day 2 Challenges.

Hello lovely people! I am back to complete some more challenges :) Today's challenges are One True Pairing, Infinite Ink and Book Spine Poetry, My Little Pocketbooks. Big warning! There will be a lot of rambling in this post! If you don't want to read that just skip to the poetry :)

So my OTP, at first I wasn't sure which ship was my OTP. I mean I have a default answer but I wasn't sure because of certain recent Emma Approved episodes, but I went back and watch some stuff and I don't there will every be anything that will knock them off the top. My OTP is Dizzie. AKA Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy.

I love Dizzie in Pride and Prejudice and basically every adaptation there is. They are cute and adorable (especially how hard Darcy tries) but also there is a bit of sexual tension in the air which is also fun ;) However I'm not that shallow to make that all I care about. What gets me about Lizzie and Darcy is how real there relationship grows and develops. It takes ages for Lizzie to fall for Darcy and that is because he has changed; which brings me onto my next point. They change each other. Because of Lizzie, William re-evaluates himself and becomes much more himself, a gentlemen, who takes care of the people he cares about instead of a snobby, rude man. And Lizzie stops being so judgemental and checks herself before she speaks, she softens too. After all that character development, they're perfect for each other and they make each other happy. :) That is why Dizzie makes me dizzy. Along with some other shallower stuff like bowties, chinese, the word illumination- which all send me into a puddle of feels. But that the fun of it, you can fangirl over them on all different levels. :)

Know onto the book spine poetry. I don't normally write poetry, I hate writing it cause I just get frustrated with myself. But this time it kinda worked. So without further ado my spine poem: (the titles are in italics and the added words are not)

Inheritance and dark secrets are forgotten
In a company of swans.
Switched for a song for summer,
Just in case of dangerous girls.

Bout of Books Day 1

Today I set myself some little goals which were to read about 25pgs of Gatsby- which I did- and start another book- this I didn't manage though. So my grand total for today is 26pgs! Pretty low really but I'm okay with that because I had to do loads of little jobs and I think I'm still a little jet lagged. So I'm planning to get a good nights sleep and then read for nearly the whole day tomorrow.

However I did do the 2 challenges for today and if you look at my last post you will see what I did with them. I really hope you had a ton of fun today, whether you read just a tiny bit like me or masses :)

Bout of Books 11, Day 1 Challenges

Whoo! That's one long title! But its for a good cause as... Today is the first day of Bout of Books 11! And of course there are some challenges. Today there is a Book Scavenger Hunt hosted by The Book Monsters and Playlist by Lulo Fangirl. To find out all the details of these just click the links to go to their blogs :)

Book Scavenger Hunt.

1. A book beginning with B: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This is a historical fiction centre around a little girl Lisel living in Nazi Germany and I adore it!

2. A book that has been made into a movie/tv show: For this I'm gonna go for Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre which has been adapted countless times in many different ways :)

3. A series you love: Now despite I have only read the 1st two in this series it has to be The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. This series is outstanding!

4. An anthology of poems or short stories: A Dylan Thomas Treasury. This has a mixture of his poems, short stories and broadcasts.

5. A book on your TBR shelf, or your full TBR shelves: I don't have a TBR shelf anymore so I'm going to give you a the books I am planning to read super soon. The Assassin's Blade, The Selection, The Ring and the Crown and Emma.

August TBR!

August is here! Where has half the summer gone by the way? August is a busy month for me. Right now I am in America with my family, I also have GCSE results coming up and I have to prepare for A-levels- fun! But since it is still the holidays I am still planning to read a lot. I've set myself a few goals for this month book wise:

Landline, Rainbow Rowell (this 1 I just need to finish)
Throne of Glass, Sarah J Maas
Lola and the Boy Next Door, Stephanie Perkins
The Geography of You & Me, Jennifer E Smith
Mockingjay, Suzanne Collins

July Book Haul

Originally I planned to just do one big end of summer haul but considering the amount I have gained already and the fact that I know I will be getting more I have decided to do one now and another later. So without further ado on with the haul. :)

First of all I got Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo. I read this in school in year 8 and I really want to read it again. It is about 2 brothers in WW1.

I also got The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald, I got this in preparation for my A-level as it is the book I'm studying.

I went on holiday to Wales and while there we went to Laugharne which was where the Poet Dylan Thomas and his family lived and there was a nice little museum. I picked up A Dylan Tomas Treasury, so basically a collection of his work.

Next I got War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. I got this because one day I want to read it and it was only £1.99, which is bloody good.

Then I got a book that so many people go on about- Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. Over the past 6 months I've really started to enjoy contemporaries so I'm looking forward to this one.

Finally I picked up Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. All I know about this is that it is about an assassin and she has to fight all the other assassins in the kingdom to earn her freedom? Anyway as soon as my friend found out I had this she demanded that I read it straight away- not that I did- but I think that is a sign that it is good don't you think?

Those are all the books that I have aquired over the past month. I don't mind me collecting more as I've managed to practically half my TBR pile this year :)

July Wrap-up!

This month was the best for reading in a long time! I read 7 books in July which I am super proud of and attribute to all the readathons this month. Because of the amount and the fact I want to write reviews for pretty much all of these I'm not going to tell you about my thoughts on the books like I normally do.

First I read a book I have been longing for for months- The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su and Kate Rorick. This is a novel based on The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, it is Lizzie's diary spanning just before to just after her videos and gives us insight into more of Lizzie's thoughts, conversations and other things that Lizzie didn't share in her vlogs. I adored this book and gave it 5 stars.

Next I finished Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. I liked this book, I just found it a little slow and ended up giving it 3 stars which was not something I thought I would do with a Jane Austen novel.

Then I read Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan. This was brilliant! It follows 2 Will Grayson's and what happens to them on their own and also when they meet also Tiny who is awesome. I gave this 4 stars.

Hollow City by Ransom Riggs was my next read. This is the sequel to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and is continues straight on from it. This book had the same strange, quirky, tense vibe as the 1st except it was way more action packed; 5 stars.

Then I tackled Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. This is set in 1999/2000 and is about a guy who's job is to read people's emails in an office to make sure they aren't breaking any rules. But instead of sending a warning to these 2 girls he starts falling for 1 of them. I wanted to read this in time for meeting Rainbow Rowell- which as of right now (when I'm writing this) is tomorrow and I can't wait!- cause I can't go if I haven't read one of her books that I own! I gave it 4 stars.

I also read another Northanger Abbey this month but this time by Val Mcdermid. This is a modern retelling of Austen's novel; I liked it but I had a few issues with it that I will go into more depth in my review. I gave it 3 stars.

Lastly I read Deep Blue by Jennifer Donnely. A mermaid book. It is beautifully made and its a good story too. It follows a group of mermaid who have to save their world. I gave it 4 stars.

On the last day of July I read a really good chunk of Landline by Rainbow Rowell and I am loving it!

So that is what I read in July 😃 I don't know how much I am going to read in the first 2 weeks of August as I'm holiday but I will post a small tbr soon.
